- Thanthai Periyar
The Government of India had ushered in the new millennium by declaring the year 2001 as Women Empowerment Year
to focus on a vision where women are equal partners like men
. The Constitution of India provides for Gender Equality and the Right to life and liberty to all our Indian citizens. It is thus the duty and mandate of every organization to provide maintenance of the fundamental rights to live and work with dignity for all employees: male and female. At the same time, fundamental rights are violated. This necessitates the establishment of safeguards to provide gender equality. Due to historical reasons, working women, often face difficulties and challenges at the work place, thereby necessitating the need for protective measures that safeguard women's rights and safety.
Women Empowerment Cell
A Women Empowerment Cell was established at Chettinad College of Engineering of Technology to empower women and help them in all walks of life. With a view to taking up women's issues and problems, the cell aims at creating awareness of their rights and duties. It also provides a platform for women to share their experiences and views regarding their status in the society and to suggest ways to improve and empower themselves. Aiming at the intellectual and social upliftment of the female students, the cell stands to facilitate women empowerment through guest lectures, seminars, awareness programmes and other welfare activities.
